Abstract

Species composition of copepods, as well as abundance of each identified species, were obtained by analyzing zooplankton collected on the west coast of Baja California Sur during some months of the 1982-1984 period. Diversity for each oceanographic campaign (Shannon-Wiener) was estimated. It was found that areas with higher diversity were frequently located in the southern portion of the studied area, associated with waters of up to 29%. Inversely, areas with lower diversity were located in the northern and central portions of the studied area, and are associated with waters under 20ºC. In 1983 tropical species dominated the area. Their level fell during 1984, without species of other biogeographic affinities becoming dominant.
